Google Updates Gemini and Workspace: Whole Editable Decks From One Prompt, Canvas Artifacts Into Classroom
Between late May and early July 2026, Google wired Gemini into Slides' full generation flow and let Gemini Canvas artifacts be attached to Google Classroom; sharing chats and canvases goes through Drive as a snapshot, not simultaneous co-editing.

Slides: a whole editable deck from one prompt
On June 30, 2026, Google said you can create a full, multi-slide presentation with Gemini in Google Slides: generate it from a single prompt, ground it in files from Drive, attach an existing deck as a style reference, and get fully editable slides; Gemini also suggests relevant files, emails and chats you can add (official post, 2026-06-30).
Google also states the limits: at launch the feature supports English (United States) only; an extended rollout started on June 29, 2026; and through at least August 1, 2026 Workspace customers get promotional access to higher limits for multi-slide creation, after which per-user usage limits apply.
Classroom: Canvas artifacts attached to coursework
On June 29, 2026, Google let education users attach Gemini Canvas artifacts — websites, quizzes, interactive games, infographics and more — directly to Google Classroom assignments and posts, by clicking "Share to Classroom" in Canvas. Google says the capability is on by default, can be managed in the Admin console, and is governed by existing Drive sharing policies; it is available to Education Fundamentals, Standard and Plus (official post, 2026-06-29).
Sharing chats and canvases: a snapshot, not live co-editing
On May 28, 2026, Google gave Workspace users the ability to share snapshots of their Gemini chats, canvases and generated media, using the same sharing interface as Drive, with the option to allow conversation sharing by link and admin controls on by default. Google says this lets colleagues build on AI workflows others have already created. End-user visibility rolled out from June 3, 2026, to all Google Workspace customers (official post, 2026-05-28).
One wording point matters: the official description is a shared snapshot, not several people editing the same conversation at once.
(Revised October 12, 2026: the original claimed Google added "real-time collaboration" to Gemini, letting multiple people edit and discuss AI-generated content simultaneously, but no matching announcement could be found on Google's official blog, the Gemini release notes or Workspace Updates; that claim was removed and replaced with the three officially sourced updates above.)
