Waymo Passes 100 Million Driverless Miles as Robotaxis Reach Real Scale

2025 was Waymo's milestone year: per Waymo's own site, its robotaxis passed 100 million fully autonomous miles (no safety driver) — more than 200 round trips to the Moon.

Year-End Operating Numbers#

Waymo's official funding announcement in February 2026 gives the year-end picture: annual rides more than tripled in 2025 to 15 million, lifetime rides passed 20 million, and the same announcement says the company was then providing more than 400,000 rides a week across six major U.S. metropolitan areas (Waymo blog). Service already ran in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta; the December 2025 year-end review sets "1 million rides a week" as a next-stage target (Waymo blog) rather than a fact at first publication.

The Route Question#

Unlike Tesla's supervised FSD approach, Waymo bet on fully driverless, asset-heavy operations — and its safety data shows a crash rate below human drivers.
