Podcastle becomes Async: the studio product moves under one brand, with 'no pivot' from the vendor

Audio and podcast recording tool Podcastle announced on 19 January 2026 that it is rebranding wholesale to Async, describing continuity rather than a shutdown. We updated the directory entry to the new brand and kept the old name searchable.

The announcement: "Podcastle is now Async"

On 19 January 2026 Async (formerly Podcastle) published a blog post titled "Podcastle is now Async: Welcome to what’s next", opening with "Podcastle is now Async. No pivot away from what you love." That is a brand consolidation rather than a shutdown or a sale of the product, and the podcastle.ai domain now redirects to async.com, which matches what we observed while auditing the directory in September 2026.

The post frames the change as the "next chapter", so the recording and podcast features once sold under Podcastle are continuing as part of the Async brand.

What this means for our directory

The entry was previously listed as "Podcastle" and linked to podcastle.ai. Three changes followed the vendor's move:

  • The listing is now Async, linking to async.com, so readers are not sent to a page for a name the company has retired.
  • The blurb keeps "formerly Podcastle" wording so the old brand still resolves in site search — verified by querying the running build, where both "Podcastle" and "Async" return the single updated record.
  • The description now matches the vendor's own account of what the product is, without inferring anything about pricing or roadmap.

Where we stop

A rename is not a shutdown, and we do not treat one as the other: Async still offers recording, transcription and AI audio tooling, while whether legacy Podcastle plans carry over unchanged should be read from the vendor's billing page. The same standard applies across the directory — a "renamed", "retired" or "shut down" claim only reaches a listing when there is a dated first-party statement behind it, which is why three other suspected rebrands (DreamStudio, Galileo and INK) remain unedited today.
